Introduction
Management Leeza and Dave Irwin
Dave Irwin has been involved with raptors from a very young age and has years of experience in training and hand-raising and rehabilitating sick, orphaned and injured birds of prey.
Whilst in the Northern Territory Dave managed and trained many raptors and conducted free-flight presentations for the Territory Wildlife Park. He also set up, managed and provided the same service for the Alice Springs Desert Park.
After moving to S.A., Dave and Leeza ran Birds of Prey displays for Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary, Adelaide Hills Wilderness Lodge and more recently at Vivonne Bay Eco-Adventures.
Leeza has assisted Dave with the birds and has, worked as a park guide at both the TWP and the ASDP. Leeza has a sound knowledge of ecosystems and the environment and loves to share and pass on this information to students and the general public alike. Whilst at the TWP Leeza gained management skills after setting up and managing the Wild Vacation Care Adventures Program for the TWP and while running their previous business, Stralya Products.
Dave and Leeza are now combining their experience with Birds of Prey and their knowledge of environmental issues to provide a service to Schools, Corporate bodies and the General public, with their beautiful and spectacular birds of prey- displays and “In- Flight†presentations. Their aim is to give people a rare and unique opportunity to view and experience these birds up close and personal, while creating an understanding and appreciation of them and their roll in the environment. Birds presented are Owls, Falcons, Eagles, Kookaburra’s and much more.
Raptor Domain also has daily presentations for the reptiles of Australia.
“Fang-Tastic†is a 45min educational, interactive and fun experience for the whole family. Held daily at 1:00pm.
Our take away message at the end of each display is
SPECIES – HABITAT = EXTINCTION
We believe Education creates awareness, awareness encourages interest, interest generates appreciation and appreciation promotes conservation.
It is up to us to ensure these magnificent birds are around for our Grand children and other generations to enjoy.
